Important items to remember when shopping for auto quotes.
1. You should never have to pay a fee for a quote.
2. Have all your personal information ready to quote. This includes your current address, if you own or rent, names and dates of birth for every driver on your current policy, and any tickets or accidents on your record.
3. All vehicles currently insured including year, make and model (VIN numbers may not be required for the initial quote but can ultimately cause a change in rate once finally obtained so the sooner you can provide them the better).
4. Current/Prior insurance carrier. Are you currently insured? If so, who with? If not, how long has it been since you were insured?
5. Know your current policy (Liability limits, deductible levels, etc.). This can help you evaluate what you are being offered compared to your current coverage. If you get a quote that is lower than your current rate, but the liability limits are lower and deductibles higher, is that really a better deal?
Types of Liability Coverage
Your liability coverage is the most important part of your auto policy and is usually noted by three numbers. Bodily Injury (per person and per accident) and property damage. As an example, 100/300/100 in liability limits on your auto policy represents coverage up to $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident for medical injuries as well as up to $100,000 in property damage should you be involved in an accident which is deemed your fault.
Obtaining multiple Quotes
By obtaining quotes from several carriers, you should be able to property evaluate which is the best deal.
